LANSING – State Representative Mike Simpson (D-Jackson) will team up with local public safety officers for the "Fill a Cop Car" food drive on Saturday, Dec. 22.

"I'd like to thank Chris Kilmer of the Community Action Agency for assisting me in coordinating this amazing event," Simpson said. "I am constantly impressed by the generosity of the people in our community."

Simpson will be joined by Roger Curtis, president of the Michigan International Speedway, as well as public safety officers from Blackman, Leoni and Columbia townships.

The food, which will be distributed through local food banks, will be collected from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:

•        Polly's Country Market at 1210 W. Parnell Road in Jackson.
•        Polly's Country Market at 11301 Brooklyn Road in Brooklyn.
•        Save-A-Lot, 3152 E. Michigan in Jackson.

Simpson said that Meijer Inc. has also generously donated 100 $20 gift cards, which will also be distributed through local food banks at First Church of the Nazarene in Blackman Township, Grass Lake United Methodist in Grass Lake and the Community Christian Interfaith Support Food Pantry in Brooklyn.

Simpson was inspired to hold this food drive in Jackson County after a similar event he participated in two weeks ago in Eaton County raised an estimated four tons of food.
