LANSING – State Representative Mike Simpson (D-Jackson) wants to create greener neighborhoods, and he's going to do it one tree at a time. On Saturday, April 26, Simpson will host his second annual tree giveaway, distributing 1,000 white pine saplings, Michigan's state tree, to the community and sharing information about recycling in the area.
"This is a true grassroots effort that will not only beautify our neighborhoods but also improve our quality of life," Simpson said. "Each year we host this event we plant the seeds of a better future for our community, making Michigan a more attractive place for companies to create jobs for our workers now. I encourage residents to join us on Saturday as we hand out saplings of our state tree and discuss ways to keep our community green."
Simpson and volunteers will hand out trees and recycling information at the following locations between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.:
- Jackson County Farm Bureau, 1342 W. Parnall Road, Blackman Township, MI
- Polly's Country Market, 11301 Brooklyn Road, Brooklyn, MI
- Family Fare, 1411 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids, MI
"Community efforts such as this make our neighborhoods better places to live, work and raise our families," Simpson said. "Keeping our neighborhoods green by planting trees creates a brighter future for us all."
