LANSING – State Representatives Mike Simpson (D-Liberty Township) and Kathy Angerer (D-Dundee) today praised Michigan International Speedway for helping drive Michigan's economy forward and pledged to continue supporting Michigan businesses that invest and create jobs in the state. Simpson and Angerer are members of the Michigan Auto Racing Caucus, which joined MIS in announcing a new study today showing the speedway has an annual economic impact of $400 million – greater than that of the Super Bowl.

"Michigan International Speedway is a destination for race fans from across the nation and the world," Simpson said. "MIS is a pillar of our tourism industry, a leader in the community and a partner in building a strong economy for Michigan."

The MIS released a new economic study today that showed the renowned race venue generates more than $400 million in total economic activity. It also generates more than 5,000 jobs for local workers during race weekends, with an annual payroll of more than $5 million.

MIS today also announced $10 million in capital improvements for projects such as upgrading more than 6,000 seats, installing new facilities and a state-of-the-art leader board, as well improving directional signage. Altogether, MIS has made $66 million in investments between 2000 and 2006.

MIS is a leader in giving back to the community, spearheading charitable and humanitarian events, such as the nation's largest single-day blood drive and other fund-raisers to benefit a wide range of causes.
