LANSING – State Representatives Mike Simpson (D-Liberty Township) and Dudley Spade (D-Tipton) today announced that South Central Michigan Works! has been awarded $149,240 from the state to provide training that will help workers upgrade their skills and boost local businesses' ability to compete in the global economy.

"By helping Jackson-area businesses provide this training for our workers, we can prevent layoffs and stop local jobs from going out of state," Simpson said. "We need to utilize every tool we have to make sure Michigan workers are highly trained to compete for the jobs in the 21^st century marketplace."

The new funding comes through the state Department of Labor & Economic Growth, which oversees the No Worker Left Behind program. This award from the No Worker Left Behind program provides customized training to help residents who are already employed upgrade their skills so they do not become at risk of losing their jobs.

The South Central Michigan Works! will administer the $149,240 award. The agency assists residents in Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale counties seeking jobs and workers interested in training, as well as local employers.
