Statement from state Rep. Robert Wittenberg (D-Oak Park) on the proposal to weaken Michigan’s no-fault auto insurance system:

Thursday, April 23, 2015

“Today, we heard testimony in the House Insurance Committee which cited that Michigan has the eighth-highest auto insurance rates in the country. When people try to say that we have the most expensive rates in the country, it’s simply not true. What is true is that we have the best coverage in the country. To me, that’s a bargain. While I fully support finding a solution to lower auto insurance premiums, I don’t think our gold-standard auto insurance is something that needs to be overhauled. I will continue to fight to ensure that our most vulnerable residents are protected and that our quality of care remains the best in the nation.”
