Hertel on passage of School Aid budget

LANSING  — An updated and expanded version of the School Aid budget passed the House by a vote of 91 to 18. In response, state Rep. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores), who voted against the budget, issued the following statement:

“The only record being broken at the Capitol today is the number of times Republicans will say ‘record education funding’. The reality is the proposed foundation allowances don’t come close to what research has shown time and again to be minimally adequate per-pupil funding. Patchwork solutions work about as well on education as they do on roads, and I couldn’t vote in support of that.”
