LANSING — An updated and expanded version of the School Aid budget passed the House today after House Democrats fought to see key changes made reflecting the priorities of everyday Michiganders, including an increase to special education funding and an increase in flexibility in the use of at-risk funds. In response, state Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-Detroit), who voted in support of the budget, issued the following statement:

“The bipartisan budget we passed today will serve as an important stepping stone to get Michigan’s schools back on track, helping our students, educators and the future of our state in the process. Nearly doubling special education and removing the closure requirement for partnership schools are vital aspects to fostering equity in classrooms across Detroit and our state; I will always fight to ensure all Michigan students are supported with the resources they need to build a successful life.”
